ONE dreamy APPLIANCE: BREVILLE smart oven

Breville smart oven, where have you been all my life?

Why am I talking about a toaster oven on Rookie Moms? because I love it THAT much. This magic miniature oven is incredible.

I’ll admit that I’m in that first stage of infatuation where it can do no wrong. Burnt my finger a little, I forgive it. I put the crumb door in upside-down, I forgive myself.

My husband, on the other hand, wishes it wouldn’t take up so dang much counter space. He’s sad that our perfectly good toaster oven was replaced by a shiny new toy and how that reflects negatively on us as people and consumers. We comfort ourselves by imagining how much energy we’ll save by using our big “real” oven less.

I rearranged our kitchen counter-tops to allow it full range of motion (for the door) and clearance (for the safe emission of the broiling power).

A pal at work called it my “Easy Bake Oven” and he asked me if it cooked with light bulbs. Not exactly…

This tiny oven (AKA Breville smart Oven) is one killer toaster oven that you can also bake a flipping chicken in. I’m in love. I picked one up from BB+B on Tuesday and so far, I’ve done these things:

Half-baked a Zachary’s pizza half-baked

Baked some cookies

Toasted toast, bagels, english muffins, a baguettes, dinner rolls

Baked raw chicken

Warmed pizza

Reheated rotisserie chicken and green beans

I think we’re going to be very delighted together.

START A infant book

There are as many methods to catch infant book memories as there are families. There is no wrong way. Some techniques may be more appropriate for your style of parenting as well as documenting.

Make a infant book already | choice one spoon fed headings & pages

The tune “Hey-Ya” by Outkast was so prominent in 2004 when I ended up being a Rookie mom that I decided it should be documented in the infant book. Is that weird? I composed “Popular tune is Hey-ya by Outkast.” I figure Julian will download it someday as well as laugh. I likewise believe it’s babybook-worthy that going to the movies expense $10 as of his birthdate, however I’m sure when the youngsters grow up as well as checked out that they’ll be all “$10 for a movie! Dude! That’s method [insert slang word meaning inexpensive]”

Option one: traditional infant book

Pictured above, a traditional infant book will have area for pictures as well as prompts for very first as well as special memories. These are simple sufficient to total when you keep in mind to do everything in real-time.

Option two: blank scrapbooking book

The book I utilized for Julian was not a pre-designed infant book (like the one pictured above by Pearhead) – it was just blank pages designed for scrapbooking. I did not scrapbook it up. There aren’t tons of details required, just a paragraph per month above a photo or two. I try to compose down new techniques when I can keep in mind them.

This scrapbooking system is from job Life

If you want to add some facts about the world to assist catch the age in which your kid is born, right here are some ideas:

Headlines from the date of birth

Popular movies, music, celebrities

Cost of a gallon of milk, gas, etc

Median house cost in your zip code

Where parents work, what they do

How you get around (perhaps someday a 2000 Honda CRV will seem fascinating or the train may be called something different)

Option three: Some digital infant book with an app or hash tag

You can slurp your instagram account right into a book such as this mom did with Chatbooks or others have done with blurb.

Option four: digital half-assing that you pull together later like when the youngster goes to college

Heather utilized a calendar to jot down firsts as well as a digital camera that reminds me of when different things occurred (“When did the cord autumn off? Oh good, she took a photo of it”).

Consider a ordinary 12×12 memory book to begin with. You don’t have to do all the themed papers as well as lettering. keep it simple by pretending there’s no such thing as the scrapbooking industry. Or utilize a adorable box as well as just toss mementos in after you’ve sharpie’d a date on them. then shake it like a Polaroid picture.

PREGNANCY guide – THE real deal

once upon a time, I had a job as a copy editor and I lasted about six weeks. From my first day, I felt it wasn’t the ideal job for me, and I cried on the phone to my previous boss. I forced myself to stay six weeks, and then I gave my two week-notice.

There was a bright side of this job ”“ my office mate. Erika Lenkert was funny, smart, and confident in exactly the way you want an older sister to be. She had a glamorous work history, having written for InStyle, assorted travel guides, and glossy San Francisco magazines, and a glamorous social life, packed with dates, white wine country outings with girlfriends, and invites to hip events. and she liked me. She told me she was my primary fan. I felt honored.

We lost touch soon after I left that job, so it was a short-lived friendship, but I was thrilled to get an email the other day announcing a new book “The real deal guide to Pregnancy” by Erika Lenkert.

The entire book is in Erika’s voice as she fills the reader in on all the crucial things a pregnant woman needs to know, adding a dash of her own experiences and down-to-earth perspectives.

Since I am not pregnant, I will confess that I could only bring myself to read about half of the book and then skip around. love that she suggests traveling. (Can’t dwell on it because for me traveling ideal now includes a 50% potty trained three year old and an eight-month old who doesn’t sleep through the night.) I am grateful, however, that I didn’t miss out on page 226, where Erika gives us the real deal:

The first six months are really hard. women who were born to be mommies will disagree, but those of us who have took pleasure in being self-indulgent rulers of our own domains and defined ourselves through professional or social achievements accomplishments might beg to differ.

”¦ In conjunction with moments of parental glory is the relentless and all-consuming task of navigating new parenthood, caring for a newborn, and realizing that you and your desires are no longer the first priorities in your own life.

I love to hear other women spell this out for soon-to-be-mamas.

Since Erika went through new motherhood a little after I did, reading this made me wish I could have given my former idol a big hug back when she was a smushy-bellied, tearful, milk-leaking, postpartum mess. I would have taken her and her daughter out for hot chocolate and pedicures. I would have assured her that she would return to the self-confident, strong, creative woman she was when we shared an office. but apparently that already happened, considering that she need to have bounced back in buy to write a book about it.

Serving the God of the Future

In my Bible study, I love to read about Joshua. He so courageously led the Israelites after the death of his mentor, Moses. He lived a long life for God, battling lots of battles and setting a good example for God’s people. Near the end of his 110 years, he gathered the people together for a farewell address. He reiterated much of what God had done for them over the years, then he issued this challenge:

“Choose you this day whom you will serve!”

He knew that it wasn’t an issue of if they would serve but who. He also knew that although God had done so much for them; in their humanity and innate sinfulness, they wouldn’t necessarily choose Him. So he gave them the options available:

1. The gods of the Past
The passage actually reads, “the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the (River).” too often, we make idols out of the mistakes that our parents made or become a servant to the abuses or bad routines of our past. instead of letting these things shape us and help us to mature, we say things like:

“I’ll never change. I’ll always be this way.”
“This is the way I was raised. I can’t live any other way.”
“I behave this way because of the way I was treated when I was younger.”
“I can’t live a Godly life because I have done too lots of bad things.”

If you say things like these, or believe them, you are serving the gods of the Past.

2. The gods of the Present
Another choice Joshua gave them was “the gods…in whose land ye dwell”. In case you hadn’t noticed, our culture isn’t typically very God-friendly. There are lots of things competing for our devotion and service. even good things like careers and homes can be things we idolize or serve. shopping for the current fashion can be a lot more crucial to us than finding God’s purpose for our life. We can look to Hollywood to tell us how to live instead of God’s Word. If this is the way you live, you are serving the gods of the Present.

3. The God of the Future
As Christians, we know that God has created a home in heaven for us if we give our lives to Him. However, do we really comprehend that He holds the whole future in His hands? He already knows what is going to happen and nothing will happen without His consent.

Let’s bring this down to where we live:

If you are serving a god of the past, remember, God was there. He saw what happened to you, what you did, the hurts and the bad choices. but He loves you and is calling you out of that past; no matter how bad or good it may have been, to a bright, healthy future with Him!

If you are serving a god of the present, know that God is here, ideal now. Yet, He knows that fads are fleeting and they won’t satisfy for the long term. lots of of them may even be harmful to a lively life with Him. He is calling you to look ahead and follow him wherever he leads!

The people of Israel accepted Joshua’s ultimatum and made their choice:

“The Lord our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.”

For the sake of a joy-filled life of purpose, health and peace; I hope you make the same choice.
