This week I interviewed Laura Day from Ziggy’s Blog.

Laura is a single mother of 2 girls, working full-time as a medical transcriptionist and in college studying to be a special education teacher. Scroll down for my exclusive interview with Laura.

HM: When did you start blogging?Laura: end of January 2009.

HM: Why do you blog?Laura: I’m not sure why I actually started blogging. I had come across a few blogs and chose I would try it. then I started blogging on some of the harmful teen trends my daughter got involved in when she was younger. I had such a good reaction I chose to continue blogging on the teen trends that my daughter didn’t get involved in (or least not that I know of).

It gives me a little “me” time without actually leaving the house, and I have found it to be enjoyable. The blogging community is a substantial and friendly place.

HM: What is your blog about?Laura: I’m a single mother raising two teen daughters. My blog includes a lot of messages on harmful teen trends, plus I blog about life as a single mom.

HM: What are your supreme goals for your blog?Laura: My main goal is to inform parents of tweens & teens (and even children) of all the wild and harmful trends that teenagers are mixed up in so they can be aware of what to view out for in their own child. My oldest daughter started cutting when she was 13 & I had no idea kids were doing this. It was such a shock to me, but now that I’m aware of it, I see a lot of teens that cut…and the list goes on and on.

HM: What do you want your readers to get out of your blog?Laura: I hope they acquire knowledge about what teenagers are having to deal with in today’s world. Gone are the Leave It To Beaver days, but I do try to lighten up at times with a little humor. I want them to delight in reading my blog and to check out often.

HM: What do you do to get your readers to keep coming back?Laura: Well, I’m still fairly new, I have joined several blog communities to help get my blog seen.

Also, with consent from my daughter, I blog about the teen trends she experienced, what she was feeling, what I was feeling…I try to keep it real.

HM: Do you have any favorite blogs or any blogs that you read regularly?Laura: I have quite a few parenting blogs that I read on a regular basis, really too numerous to list here, but they are all on my blogroll.

HM: Do you have any guidance for other bloggers?Laura: best now, I’m still asking for advice/help with my blog, but I would say write about what you enjoy. blogging shouldn’t be a chore.
